Romantic Valentine’s Day Ideas in Puerto Vallarta

Table of Contents

Spending Valentine’s Day in Puerto Vallarta is certain to be a fun experience for you and your beloved! We have compiled a list of things to do in Vallarta on Valentine’s day to make the most romantic day of the year extra special for both of you. Whether you are the outdoor adventure type, or the cozy up indoors type, here are our top suggestions for a great Valentine’s Day.

Treat Your Partner to a Romantic Dinner

Puerto Vallarta is home to numerous world class restaurants serving haute cuisine amid some of the most stunning scenery in the world.

La Palapa

La Palapa restaurant is one of the most famous restaurants in Vallarta, due to its location right on the shoreline at Los Muertos Beach in the heart of the Romantic Zone. La Palapa was opened in 1959 as the very first restaurant on the beach. It has been in the same location and owned by the same family ever since. While it started as just a palapa on the sand, 60 years of expansion have turned La Palapa into the elegant dining establishment it is today. The ambience is comfortable but sophisticated, and the menu features higher-end cuisine. In the evenings, patrons are seated at candlelit tables on the sand, just steps away from the iconic Los Muertos Pier. The sound of the waves rolling in creates a romantic atmosphere perfect for a very special Valentine’s Day dinner!

Cafe des Artists

Cafe des Artists is another great option for a romantic dinner date. This French style fine dining restaurant is owned and run by renowned chef Thierry Blouet. Chef Blouet creates dishes that will surprise you and delight your five senses by fusing classical French cuisine with Mexican flavors and exquisite modern presentation. The dining spaces are elegant, designed for those with discerning taste, and the decor will serve as eye candy while you dine with your loved one.

However, you don’t have to go out to create a romantic experience. Hotel Mousai is offering two special room service menus for couples this Valentine’s Day. Enjoy a cold meat and cheese platter with chocolate covered strawberries and sparkling wine, or a selection of tapas, French macarons, chocolate truffles and a bottle of champagne delivered right to your room! And don’t forget to stop by the Sunset Cocktail hour in the lobby to hear live music and partake in canapés and a themed welcome drink.

Visit a Scenic Spot

Scenic vistas, waterfalls, and beaches in Vallarta make great day trips for an adventurous Valentine’s Day out.

Palo Maria

Palo Maria is the name of the waterfall closest to Hotel Mousai. It is located on the jungle wilderness land adjacent to the hotel property. Hotel Mousai offers guided hikes to the waterfall every week. Hiking to Palo Maria is considered an advanced hike, because you need to walk up the riverbed to reach the waterfall, crossing the river several times and climbing over large boulders. It takes about 45 minutes to reach the waterfall. The falls flow all year long, even during the dry season, and you can swim in the natural pool below. It is absolutely gorgeous, and we highly recommend taking the guided hike!

Playa Las Gemelas

If you’d like to continue your day outdoors after spending the morning at Palo Maria, you can head down to the beach at Playa Las Gemelas. After leaving Palo Maria, when you get to the bottom of the riverbed where it meets the highway, cross the highway and go to the left (south). Walk 1.9 km until you see a sign for Girasol Sur Condominiums. Next to the sign is a long and somewhat dangerous-looking staircase that goes down to the beach called Playa Las Gemelas. This is a beautiful beach with crystal clear, often turquoise blue water that is rather off the beaten path for tourists. It’s a bit of a hidden gem of Puerto Vallarta. This beach has no services, no restrooms, no restaurants, and almost no vendors. You might find an occasional vendor selling coconuts or fish on a stick but be prepared to bring your own picnic and pack out everything you bring. Local families frequent this beach on the weekends, especially Sundays, so if you can go on a weekday, you’ll have better luck finding a less crowded beach. (Valentine’s Day is on a Friday this year!)

Hike, Stroll, Walk Around Town

One of the best ways to spend the day in Puerto Vallarta is just strolling around town. Walk the Malecón, have coffee or lunch, do a little shopping, a little people watching, and then head to the beach to catch the sunset. This is truly the perfect way to spend a day off exploring with your lover.

If you are looking for in-town hiking or a walk to scenic vistas, many people like to hike up to Mirador del la Cruz, the large cross on top of the mountain above the Cinco de Diciembre neighborhood. There are three ways to get there. You can walk straight up the street where Mandala nightclub is (Josefa Ortiz de Dominguez Street) and follow the trail up the mountain. Another route is following Abasolo Street, which starts from the Malecón, uphill toward the peak. Either route you choose is a pretty strenuous hike, with the last part being a lot of stairs. Experienced hikers will enjoy the challenge, and for those less experienced, there is now a funicular at the bottom of the mountain along the Abasolo Street route that will take you up for a nominal fee. The funicular runs during high season between 6:00 am and 10:00 pm.

Tours and Excursions

Puerto Vallarta has numerous tours and excursions. From whale watching to ATV tours to skydiving, there is something for everyone! If you and your partner are the adventurous types, taking a day tour or an adventure excursion for Valentine’s Day could be perfect for you! Your hotel concierge can set it up for you. Choose from numerous activities, from Yelapa, Quimixto, Las Caletas Beach, Marigalante Pirate Ship, Rhythms of the Night, Marietas Islands, Ziplining at Los Veranos, El Eden or many others.

Take Advantage of Special Services at Hotel Mousai

Fantasies come true at Hotel Mousai, so why not take advantage and impress your partner with a romantic surprise this Valentine’s Day, such as cold champagne for two delivered to your room, rose petal decoration on your bed, or chocolate covered strawberries. Any of these options can be set up while you are away, so when you arrive home, your love will be surprised!

Get a Couple’s Massage

Indulging in a couple’s massage with your love on Valentine’s Day is a wonderful way to increase your connection, while melting away tension and stress. It will leave you both feeling refreshed, energized, and blissful. 50 minute sessions, 80 minute sessions, and 100 minute sessions are available at Hotel Mousai’s Spa Imagine. During the month of February, Spa Imagine is giving 20% off all couple’s massages!

Whatever you choose to do this Valentine’s Day, you are sure to spend a romantic and memorable time with your loved one and enjoy the best Valentine’s Day ever in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico.
