Named after the Mayan goddess Ixchel – the goddess of fertility – it began as a small fishing village and carries a rich history of pirates and conquistadores. Today, it’s a bustling coastal community with romantic beach restaurants, endless water adventures on the Mesoamerican Reef, an Underwater Museum, and a thriving Night Life on Playa Norte or along Avenida Hidalgo.
