Puerto Vallarta to Welcome Video Art Festival

Table of Contents

It is almost time for 2017’s edition of CLOSE UP VALLARTA, the International Video Creation Festival that brings the seaside city of Puerto Vallarta, Mexico to life. This remarkable festival will span three days, from November 16th through November 18th, and will be held at several locations around town. The festival will highlight video art that has been produced by local and international artists alike. Some of Puerto Vallarta’s leading innovative minds come together with creative thinkers from around the world who travel to the city to take part in this momentous event. Instead of restricting the video art of the festival to a certain style or genre, CLOSE UP aims to include a variety of video art that lets each artist reveal their own personal take on the art form.

2017’s CLOSE UP Festival

Taking place over a span of three days, the video exhibition festival will be held between November 16th and November 18th. A welcome cocktail party is scheduled for November 16th, which will involve projections of video art by selected artists in addition to time dedicated to artists and attendees getting to know each other. The next day, there will be several talks led by various artists, while the evening will be filled with projections of all of the competing videos that are part of the festival. Additional talks and projections will take place on the final day, November 18th, as well as a movie picnic that will include a portion that awards the top prize of the festival. That night, a final party will bring together participants of the festival and attendees where everyone can join together in celebration of the incredible creative energy that the video art festival brings to Puerto Vallarta.

 History of CLOSE UP

While the festival has been stationed in Puerto Vallarta for years now, CLOSE UP actually began in 2006 in Mexico City. Cuban artist Angel Delgado organized the first festival, which started as a monthly video art exhibition that took place in different locations each month. It then morphed into a festival that coincided with special events like college fairs and various festivals. It became CLOSE UP VALLARTA in 2011 and has taken place exclusively in Puerto Vallarta since then. Besides being in charge of Puerto Vallarta’s festival, Angel Delgado also continues to travel around Mexico to present his art and takes part in many international events as well.

Video Art with an International Twist

CLOSE UP VALLARTA is a festival that embraces everything connected to video art, which means it is a great chance to become more familiar with the art form, whether you are viewing works by newcomers or established filmmakers. The festival promotes the distinctive individuality of video art and includes everything from international filmmaking trends to the latest styles of video art. Both tourists and locals in Puerto Vallarta are able to discover the joys of video art with the festival’s various activities. Organizers appreciate video art because it is available on a much wider scale than art that is on display in a museum or gallery. Besides video art made by locals in Mexico, the festival will also welcome international artists from several other countries including Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Cuba, France, Iran, Poland and Spain. CLOSE UP 2017 will no doubt be the most impressive festival to date, with a range of multi-cultural influences found in the videos of artists from both near and far!
