The Perfect Sunglasses

Table of Contents

Whether you wear them to complement your outfit, hide the dark circles under your eyes that give away lack of sleep after a great party, or to actually do their intended job of blocking the damaging UV rays you encounter outdoors, sunglasses are one of the most important accessories a person can own.  Of course, with a sea of different styles to choose from, picking the right pair of sunglasses can become downright challenging.

Because certain styles are more flattering on certain face shapes, it is a good idea to know which sunglass styles will work best for you before you go shopping for your next pair.  While trying on lots of styles is always an option, being able to narrow down your sunglass selections from the start will save you a lot of time and frustration.

Determine Your Face Shape

If you aren’t sure what your face shape is, you can figure it out very easily.  After making sure your hair is pulled away from your face, stand in front of a mirror and trace the outline of your face with a bar of soap, lipstick or a dry erase marker.  Once you are finished, take a look and see which face shape you have from the list below.  Then, review which sunglass styles will best suit your face shape before you head out to shop for your latest pair!

Heart

A heart-shaped face is narrowest at the jawline, and sunglasses that feature frames which are wider on top than they are on bottom will accentuate your striking looks!  Sunglass styles such as Cat Eye, Wayfarer-style, and Sporty pairs will all have you looking your best.

Round

Widest across the cheekbones and a bit narrower around the forehead and jawline, a round face will look fantastic with angular, oversized or rectangular sunglass styles including Square, Wayfarer-style and Cat Eye, all of which offset roundness.

Oval

Longer than it is wide, an oval face is a versatile shape that works well with most sunglass styles, especially those with round and square frames like Aviators and Wayfarer-style.  Proportion is key here; anything too small or too oversized could look awkward.

Square

Square faces have features including a strong jawline, a wide forehead and wide cheekbones.  Sunglass styles that have rimless edges or soft lines such as Round, Aviator and Shield, will help soften your look.

Choosing a new pair of sunglasses can be a tricky affair, so let these tips make the process easier for you!
