What No-one Tells You When You get Married

Table of Contents

People will bombard you advice when you tell them that you’re getting married, and a lot of it will be useful: who to go to for flowers, the best wedding diet, what shoes to wear, and how to best manage your time to avoid mental breakdowns… all of this will probably be covered, but most people will forget to tell you how important it is that you practise a little self-care on your wedding day itself.

We don’t mean self-care in the sense of getting your nails and hair done, or having a facial. We mean more basic things that most brides-to-be forget to do like snacking on healthy foods and drinking enough. Taking care of yourself is the best way to ensure that you have a fun and successful day which you remember for the rest of your life.

Here are our top tips and hints for ensuring you can go the distance on your wedding day;

1. Get a good night’s sleep

This might be easier said than done, but getting some quality Z’s before your wedding day will really put you in the best position to get through what will no doubt be the best, but longest day of your life so far. So put the wine down and turn in early!

2. Have a good breakfast

While you may be on a diet to fit into your honeymoon bikini, we urge you to have a big, satisfying breakfast as many brides admit that they do not get a chance to eat at their wedding reception due to all the activity at this time. Try wholegrain toast with some mashed avocado and bacon, or granola and natural yogurt with bananas and chia seeds to keep you on a steady supply of energy with complex carbs and protein.

3. Bring snacks

Things like almonds, cashews, and pistachios pose no risk to your dress as snacks, but will help you to tick over if you get sudden hunger pangs.

4. Stay hydrated

Some people might tell you that drinking too much water will bloat you on your wedding day, but this really is not the case! In fact, if you stay hydrated in the days leading up to your wedding it will actually reduce the risk of bloating, help your skin, and let you drop water weight. Staying hydrated on your wedding day will also fend of the bubbles and keep headaches at bay, which means you’ll be your charming best.
