Mexico’s Craft Beer

Table of Contents

Beer in Mexico is heading in new and delicious directions, with more breweries opening across the country.  Produced with a decidedly more creative bent than traditional Mexican beers like Tecate, Sol or Corona, cervezas artesanales are cropping up in big cities like Mexico City and Guadalajara as well as smaller towns and coastal areas.  This means it is easier to find craft beer when traveling in the country, whether varieties are featured on tap at a bar or offered at your favorite upscale restaurant.

Fortunately, staying at Hotel Mousai offers the benefit of serving some of Mexico’s finest craft brews at the on-site restaurants so you can satisfy all of your beer cravings!  For some inspiration, take a closer look at a few of Mexico’s top breweries:

Minerva

As Mexico’s biggest brewery, Minerva has long been leading the pack in the country’s industry and currently holds an astounding 30% of the market.  The company was founded in 2003 and is located close to the hustle and bustle of Guadalajara.  Minerva strives to expand its reach in both the national and international markets with beers that exhibit a decidedly European influence while still nodding to the traditions of Mexican beer making.  Meticulous standards and top of the line ingredients go into every beer they make, which includes three seasonal beers and seven beers that are produced all year long such as a stout and an IPA.  Perhaps the most captivating beer they make, though, is the “ITA”, which blends flavors of well-rounded malt, warm oak, fresh hops and, to top it all off, a healthy dose of Mexico’s most beloved liquor, tequila!

Los Cuentos

The idea for this brewery in Puerto Vallarta was sparked in 2013 by a team who is dedicated to developing unique and tasty beers that embody a variety of influences, including ideas picked up during extensive travels around Mexico and portions of Europe and North America.  None of the beers they produce contain artificial preservatives, and only the finest ingredients and stringent standards will do.  You won’t want to miss their IPA, which is especially outstanding.

Cervecería de Colima

Although it may be located off the beaten path in the state of Colima, Cerveceria de Colima generates high-caliber handcrafted beers that are both refreshing to the palate and eye-catching, featuring sleek labeling and festively bright bottle caps.  The relaxing atmosphere in the slow-paced Pacific coast town of El Trapiche attracted the head brewer, who hails from the United States and churns out beer varieties such as porter, pale ale and lager.  The beer label has marketed their brand quite successfully in national and international arenas alike.

The availability of craft beers in Mexico continues to grow, so why not give a few a try during your next getaway at Hotel Mousai?
