Where is Puerto Vallarta?
Puerto Vallarta, also known as “PV” or simply “Vallarta,” is a stunning beach town situated on the western coast of Mexico in the state of Jalisco on the Pacific Ocean, south of San Blas and some 185 miles (300 kilometers) west from the state capital, Guadalajara. Its geographical coordinates are 20° 37′ 0″ North, 105° 15′ 0″ West, on the same latitude as Hawaii.
History of Puerto Vallarta
Claiming its city status in 1968, Puerto Vallarta was once just a small fishing village on Banderas Bay called Las Peñas. Cocooned between the Sierra Madre Mountains and adorned by golden sand beaches and sapphire waters, Puerto Vallarta was launched into stardom by Hollywood lovebirds Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton who played out their romance on the cobblestone streets of Puerto Vallarta in the 1960s during the filming of John Huston’s movie adaptation of Tennessee Williams’ play, “The Night of the Iguana.”
What to expect in Puerto Vallarta
Adventure, churches, cafes, art galleries, bars, restaurants, and five star hotels make this town full of vibrant culture and a hub of activity perfect for a fun vacation. It boasts a new boardwalk that runs along the coastline for just over a mile, and this is where the resort town comes to life at night. You can sip your margarita in a lively restaurant or bar whilst watching the sun go down.
Puerto Vallarta Weather
Puerto Vallarta and Banderas Bay enjoy warm sunny weather throughout the year, although many people prefer the cooler climate between November through to April to the hot summer heat when rain storms keep the vegetation lush but do not interrupt the sunshine for more than a couple of hours each day.
Puerto Vallarta’s International Airport
There is one main airport that serves the whole of Banderas Bay, including Puerto Vallarta, Riviera Nayarit, Punta Mita, Sayulita and the smaller villages nearby. International flights run daily from the United States and Canada and there are now direct flights from the UK and Europe.
It is easy to see why Puerto Vallarta is so popular for vacations. It has everything you could want: perfect weather, water sports, culture, art, sandy beaches, crystal waters and a vibrant nightlife. So make sure you make a visit soon and you could find yourself walking along the cobbled streets of downtown and sipping a cocktail at night on the beach.
